My Durham Desktop

4th March 2010

From the Region comes a super cool feature for your computer!

My Durham Desktop is your weekly inspiration for things to do in Durham Region. It’s a computer desktop calendar that serves up a new wallpaper showcasing beautiful images of Durham Region every week.

Each captivating image is accompanied by a pop-up window that informs you of local events and happenings. I downloaded it last week, and I just love it.

Family Day fun!

12th February 2010

How we all love a holiday! Especially one that celebrates family. No matter what form yours is, we wish you a splendid long weekend, and hope you do something special with your loved ones.

Be sure to check out our events calendar for what’s happening around Durham (our friends at Creative Play have a great party happening!), and visit your local municipality’s website to see what free things are on Monday, February 15. Up in the Boonies, we’re planning some free swimming at our local pool, and partaking in a free barbeque at the Legion!

Enjoy.

Free parent show tickets!

3rd November 2009

Market Moms_1.jpgIt’s a big show weekend, with both Mamas & Chicks on in Oshawa, and Market Moms on in Uxbridge this Saturday, November 7.MAMAS_AND_CHICKS_fall09_poster.jpg

And we again have free tickets for both! There are 150 up for grabs from Mamas & Chicks, and 10 from Market Moms.

Both of these shows highlight the best of our local parentpreneurs. They’re stroller-friendly, have food, loot bags and ample parking. Start your Christmas shopping early — shop local, avoid the malls, and support your fellow parents. The scenery is beautiful this time of year, and I encourage you to take the day to drive to both!

Here’s how to win:

  • For Mamas & Chicks: Visit www.mamasandchicks.com and click through the pages to find out how many times Durham Region Baby is listed on the site
  • For Market Moms: Visit www.marketmomsonline.com and find out the name of the venue where the show is being held

Email the answers to info@durhamregionkids.com ASAP for your FREE ticket to each show.

These are popular contests, and tickets usually go within 24 hours — enter quick!

Baby gear, food, tractors and dirt. Now isn’t that a recipe for a good time?

21st May 2009

It seems like from here on in, there’s some family fun-ness happening in Durham.

This weekend is no exception.

Saturday is the much-anticipated Mom2Mom Sale in Ajax. All the details are here.

Many of Durham Region’s Farmers’ Markets open this weekend or next. All winter, when we drive by the location of our local one, Lucy yells, “Therrrrrrre’s the Market!” Can’t wait to get some fresh and local food again. Click here for a list to find your closest one.

Saturday is also the Region of Durham’s annual National Public Works Week celebrations, where you can tour various recycling, traffic, water and compost facilities. It may SOUND boring, but they’re actually lots of fun for kids to see where our stuff goes. Plus, you get to see big tractors and diggers and dudes in hard hats (perhaps that last one is something for the moms?).

Finally, and this one is for us north Durham folks (go Boonies!), there’s free compost to be had at the Uxbridge Arena from 8 a.m.-noon.

Take a spin through your local paper to find all the garage sales, too. This weekend seems to be the unofficial kick off to the season.

(Eric, I’m gonna be gone for a few hours on Saturday morning. Good luck with the kids!)

Don’t forget to visit our local events page here for more.
