UPDATE: Congrats to Denise — comment #12 — for winning!

We broke the rules with Alice, and started putting a blanket in bed with her around 10 months.

This was a combination of second child syndrome, her being a very active baby who moves around a ton while sleeping (meaning I wasn’t worried about her getting caught around or under a blanket), and the fact she is not super chubby, and therefore gets cold at night.

We used a sleep sack for her when she was younger, but she’s long grown out of it over the summer. I was just starting to look at a larger one when an email from Rebecca from Wee Rascals landed in my inbox.

This Whitby mom has twins, and started her business after her babies quickly grew out of the many receiving blankets she received as shower gifts. Rebecca’s mom, a professional seamstress, made her larger ones. Then the sleepsack idea came about, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Now Wee Rascals creates custom-made baby products in hand selected fabrics including 100% organic cotton, flannelette and fleece. Their products include extra large receiving blankets, infant sleep sacks, crib sheets and more. They also do custom monogramming.

Check out Alice’s beautiful sleep sack. It’s a medium, and fits her perfect. Generous, but not too big, and room to grow. Look at the piping detail down the front. The covered snaps. It’s ultra-soft, cozy, warm and the design is so fresh. I fell in love with it when it arrived. It’s absolutely perfect for these cooler months. What makes them extra unique is they go large enough to fit a 3-year-old!

Although fleece is very warm it will actually wick moisture away from the skin so your baby will not sweat or be too hot. The shop has many cute and fun prints (blue camoflouge for boys is to die for) to choose from. This sack retails for $39.50, and Rebecca is currently offering $5 off orders over $30 when you enter code WEERAS01 at checkout.

I have a custom, monogrammed sleep sack to give away to a lucky reader — just in time for the cool weather.

Here’s how to win: Go visit Rebecca’s site www.weerascals.ca, and tell us what you love most! A security blanket? Organic sleep sack? Stay-put bib? Crib sheet? Leave your favourite below, and I’ll draw a winner at noon Friday.

I sleep better knowing Geoffrey is warm and safe in his sleep sac. I love that Rebecca makes them in bigger sizes and such great colours! Geoffrey is only 9 months and he is nearly too big for his current sleep sac that is supposed to go up to 12 months. It is nice to know a quality product is available so close to home.

I love the stay put bibs! Certainly would help keep our little maiden cleaner at meal times.

I love the security blankies…makes me think of my yellow blankie from my childhood!

I definitely love the sleep sack. Eirinn was in sleep sacks until she grew out of them. Avery was as well. I now put three blankets over Avery in the hopes that she doesn’t roll out of at least one of them. This never happens and she’s always cold, laying on top of her blankets.

I’d also like to add that I love the fact that she uses snaps instead of velcro. I’ve had many sleep sacks for the girls and the velcro ones are useless. The straps come undone and they worm their way out easily.

I wish I’d known about the extra large receiving blankets a few months ago. Ryan outgrew the regular ones when he was one month old and still really needed to be swaddled. And he’s managed to outgrow his first sleep sack as well. The blue camo is totally awesome.

easton tosses and turns all over his crib and i am always worried he’s going to get cold, and a blanket doesn’t stay on him (he’s 14 months)….the blue camo sleep sack would be perfect!!

I never used a sleep sac with Alyssa but one may have made things a lot easier. Maybe I’ll have to try one for baby number two to keep it toasty warm this winter!
The extra large receiving blankets are fabulous for anyone who has not used one.

    a) I’ve already sent a new Grandma to be at my work to their website, I think she’s going to order the sleep sack

    b) I really like most thing – love the double receiving blankets but I don’t know if they would be big enough for my kids (makes a great gift though) and definitely the sleep sacks – Cait’s always tossing off blankets.

I LOVE sleep sacks, Carmen is already in one since she kicks her covers off ALL THE TIME!! Mya was in one forever too, but she stays put now, and she is a warm sleeper anyway… The stay put bibs are a very cool idea….

I LOVE the stay put bibs, I’m constantly trying to keep the bibs on my 7 month old twins and I’ve given up as they spend more time ripping theirs off than eating it’s frustrating, now it’s just more laundry and stain fighting! Will definitely give these a try.

I love the sleep sacks!! I used a sleep sack with my girls and they loved it. It was a great way to stop swaddling them but they still felt nice and cozy! I love all the great colours you have too!

Thanks for sharing this Carly! Sleep sacks an absoulte must with Alex. We tried blankets a few times but he is such a squirmer – once I found the blankets wrapped around his head so we ditched that right away. I had my MIL make me a couple for Christmas last year and while they are beautiful I am not crazy about the design, they are hard to get off the arms. I will be checking this out for sure!

I love the little camo sleep sack. Cameron never manages to keep the blankets on, although he loves to just hug them. I am usually putting him in really warm sleepers to ensure he stays cozy. Although I love 2 piece pjs, I worry about him having cold feet – this would solve all those worries!

I agree, April. It wasn’t until Lucy — around 2.5 — started staying under her covers that we really embraced two-piece jammies. Even now I often have to tuck her back under before we go to bed.

Carly, do you know if the Mama’s and Chicks show has a facebook page? I’ll certainly post it on mine – most of our friends have wee ones and live in Durham.

I know there’s a few people at my work who would want tickets too – can’t wait for the details!

I LOVE the look of the sleep sacks. I will for sure have to invest in this. My 4 month old daughter loves to kick off her blankets, and we live in an old farm house, so it is a chore making sure she is covered up all night!! It is great to know you carry a various of sizes!!!

I would LOVE a sleep sack ! My daughter is 10 months … and I must say that with the colder weather I have been covering her with a blanket. This would make me feel a lot better and I wouldn’t need to worry.
Carly ! I enjoy reading your site ! Been a long time since we played in the band together !!
