Big Love
23rd September 2009
Lucy has taken to quantifying her love for us.
It’s interesting to hear what she uses, because these are the objects and actions that, at 3.5-years-old, are perceptually large and valuable to her.
Currently, she loves us bigger than:
- three stars
- Dora
- a dinosaur
- the sky
- ice cream
- candy
- “this much” (stretching her arms wide)

Very cute, I am glad to see that you rank higher than Dora!!! lol
Funny I was thinking the same thing.
More than Dora – that’s good. Is it bad that one of the words my 1 1/2 year old can say is “Dora” and my 4 year old says “I can watch Dora all day”.
Not sure what they put in that show to make it so addictive to them.
I think kids are drawn to shows where the characters speak directly to them. It’s not that they put anything into the show, they’ve just drawn Dora with hypnotic eyes. Adults hear the regular show, kids hear “watch Dora all daaaaay…be miserable unless I’m on your tv screeeeeeen…”
Eirinn tells us she loves us several times a day, but she always qualifies it by saying “I love everyone I know” afterwards. Makes us feel special and not so much all at the same time.
you’re very lucky to be loved more than Dora, that’s quite an honour ..!
Whenever Cait gets in trouble (which is a lot lately), she thinks that if we’re mad at her, we don’t love her anymore. She always tells us through crocodile tears “I just love Mommy” or Daddy – whomever did the yelling. I guess she wants us to know that she loves us even if she’s sad.
funny what gets into their little heads sometimes.
