Toxic toys

If you are a parent or grandparent or anyone who buys toys for our children, you must read this investigative piece in today’s Saturday Star about our government’s failure in protecting kids from lead:

All children’s products from China should be banned………
Thank you for sharing this link.
Scary scary scary… who and what can we trust?? That’s it. My kids are only allowed to play with sticks and rocks.
It’s so sad. Why are these products allowed for export in the first place? I shudder to think of all the toys my kids have (some second-hand from older Aunts) that could possibly have health consequences. I’m afraid to buy anything for my kids that’s labelled as made in China for fear it might harm them in some way. We shouldn’t have to live in a world like this. It used to be you had to watch that our kids weren’t chewing on paint chips from window panes because of lead paint, but the fact that they use it in toys? *shudders*. Yes, lead in plastics (or paint) make for a more vibrant colour which is one of the reasons they use it. Anyone old enough to remember the Toronto Police cars that used to be bright yellow? Lead paint.
As a rule, I don’t buy toys for my kids from Dollar Stores usually because of the quality of the piece – small pieces or they break easily – but this is another reason to scratch them off the list.
What is wrong with a country that allows lead in toys and Melamine in baby formula? All those poor kids who have suffered or died, simply because their parents innocently tried to feed them. I’m sorry, I just don’t understand. I would have thought that safety would have been a first priority.
Sorry for the rant – it’s just a terrifying article….
