38 weeks: Share your faves
12th October 2008
Snapped last Friday. The faded stretch marks from my pregnancy with Lucy are starting to reappear, but I don’t seem to be brewing any new ones. The area around my belly button, however — in a 2.5″ radius — is ridiculously sore and painful. I keep waiting to wake up one morning and find that section of skin just ripped wide open or something.
While I know there will be considerably less downtime with breastfeeding this time around — what with a toddler to entertain, too — there’s still the middle of the night and days when Lucy is at daycare or my Mom’s to consider.
With Lucy, I watched a lot of Golden Girls, old movies and missed television shows (we didn’t have cable in Ajax, obviously). And read a lot of books, too, when I could keep my ey
es open.
So, I’d love for you to share your favourite movies, can’t-miss-or-I-die TV shows and best books you’ve read — even blogs/websites you read, as I can surf from the couch! — so I’ve got lots of media to choose from while passing the time with a newborn stuck to my boobs.

We’re currently hoarding episodes of Grey’s Anatomy, Private Practice, Heroes and Lost; as well as movies like Forgetting Sarah Marshall, My Super Ex-Girlfriend and The Other Boleyn Girl to keep us occupied throughout the labour and breastfeeding.
I just wanna say you look great ! I cant believe its already 38 weeks .. then again I dont have her stuck in my body
We watch House, CSI, The Cleaner, Criminal Minds…all PVR’d so we dont have to watch commercials
Hi Carly! You look fantastic and I can’t believe you only have a couple of weeks left to go! I’m not a big TV watcher here but one of my absolute favs is Lost. I got hooked on this this past spring when the video store had a movie rental special. I had always wanted to watch this series but always missed it so finally jumped in. It’s now in season 5 (well in 2009) so there were a lot of shows to be watched. I couldn’t wait for the kids to go to bed so I could get my “fix” and I would watch a least three a night! Highly recommend.
um Carly, the turkey’s supposed to be on the table, not under your shirt …
I watched Melrose Place on DVD – sooo happy it was finally released. I watched a lot of daytime tv too – I love “the Mom Show”. Can’t go wrong with Grey’s Anatomy either .. mmmm Dr. McDreamy! I found it too hard to read while feeding.
I know you’ve mentioned it before, but I agree that it’s a good idea to keep Lucy in daycare. It helps to return the family unit to some normalcy. It gives you a much needed break. If you plan on sending both kids to the same daycare, it’s a good idea to bring the baby in to ‘meet’ the sitter and the other kidlets often so she gets used to the sitter and the noise. When Caity was about 8 months old, I’d bring her to Terri’s once a week and have the entire day to myself – it was heaven.
I’m guessing you might not be bringing Lucy out for halloween this year – you could be busy doing other things …
Wow, you look amazing! How exciting
I recommend a funny British show called, “Spaced” and “The Riches” which is actually still airing and on right now (but I’d recommend you watch it from the start.)
yes, I kept Lucia home (not in daycare) and almost died. Smart idea keeping your Lucy going.
As for what to do …. beats me, I haven’t had free time in about 3 years.
I am currently addicted to the Gilmore Girls. I just bought season’s 1-3… and LOVE IT!!!
