Bikini waxes for kids?!
28th August 2008
Like there isn’t enough pressure on us grown-up women, check out this article about spas doing wax jobs on kids as young as 6.
One woman wanted her 9-year-old to get a bikini wax because the family was going to Europe for the summer.
An aesthetician at a high-end spa in Yorkville (a trendy, expensive part of downtown Toronto) says she regularly waxes “the arms, eyebrows, legs and armpits of about three girls in an average week.”
And: Nair recently introduced a fruity scented line of chemical hair removal for young girls called Nair Pretty.
I…just…forgoodnesssake! Is this for real?! I feel like it’s a tasteless April Fool’s story, which makes it even more disturbing.
It’s scary enough to have girls and worry about positive body image, and covering my ears to block out documentaries of preteens giving head at school. Now I have to worry about body hair?
I’m officially putting bars on the girls’ windows and triple bolting the doors. See you in 20 30 years.

I agree wholeheartedly! That is disturbing. And wrong. And just gross.
I saw that this morning and I just thought, “Ewwww!”
And then I thought, “I should post about that tonight.”
And then I thought, “Ah…I don’t need to…I’m sure Carly’ll beat me to it!”
I frankly think that any mother who would force her 9-year-old daughter to get a bikini wax is stepping awfully close to child abuse. Disgusting.
Unbelieveable……….what do you body wax on a 9 year old??????????
Well, perhaps after they get a good waxing, they can wear those baby stiletos we’ve seen before… personally I think it’s high time my 5 year old got her navel pierced and her hair dyed … she is getting on in years you know … maybe if she’s a good girl and doesn’t get any time-outs she can have a Tattoo for Christmas…
I think I’ll get Caity a pair of these….

(Carly edit: I wrote about them here, too:

I tried the bars and bolts, and darn it just didn’t work!
Wow .. thats just sad ..
I remember the first time I shaved my legs my mom was furious with me…she has never shaved a day in her life !
I will never pressure my kids to do anything like that .. they will come to me (I hope) haha
