Great Grand Dad McD

5th March 2008

grandpa_card_inside.jpgEric’s Grandpa is a feisty 90-year-old who still tries to shingle my mother-in-law’s shed each spring.

(Yes, the shed is shingled. Like green roofing shingles. I believe he fixed some on the sides last year, but was banned from going up on a ladder.)great_grand_dad_foot.jpg

He was a farmer forever. Then he drove a school bus. A few years ago, he was at a car show, and walked into a photo the local newspaper was taking of some old vehicles. The paper printed the pic, and Grandpa Eddie cut it out of the front page and carried it in the front pocket of one of his never-ending supplies of plaid button-down shirts, bringing it out for all to see.

(That’s Grandpa Eddie with Lucy at Thanksgiving.)

He still drives. We can follow his whereabouts in Eric’s hometown by the location of his turquoise Cavalier. It’s often parked at a local diner that Grandpa and his buddies frequent because it sells the cheapest coffee.grandpa_card_inside_front.jpg

We absolutely adore him.

grandpa_card_front.jpgLast week he sent Lucy a birthday card. I was so touched by his shaking script, the wording, the card, the three x’s and three o’s. It brought me to tears, this little collection of paper did.

Isn’t that just the sweetest thing you ever saw. Good for Grampa. He certainly is still on the ball at times, anyway!! He certainly thinks the world of his little Lucy.
Might I mention Grampa has shingled the whole shed in different colours of mostly green shingles with some brown and grey added, just to break it up. It is certainly a wonder to behold, but it does the job and besides the shingles are all that is holding it up, I think.
