Hair help

17th January 2008

To all the Durham moms out there:

Can anyone recommend a good place to get an infant/toddler hair cut? I always recommend the place I took Lucy to when we lived in Ajax — that little firetruck was so great for her first ever cut, and totally relaxed/distracted her — but have heard murmurings about a place along Kingston Rd. in Pickering (Little Tots Hair Shop or something? But that website does not work) that specializes in kids…?

Or, if you’ve just been to a baby/toddler/kid-friendly place, please share.

Thanks, as always!

I took Kathryne on Dec 19th for her first haircut to Little Tots Hair – it’s in the Mandarin plaza on Kingston Road (no frills is in the same plaza too) in Pickering. You’re right, they don’t have a working website, but the phone number is somewhere on the net. You just go in, sign your kid’s name on the paper and it’s first come first served. Get there early is all I can say. Apparently you can wait up to an hour at times. We did it on a Wednesday and raced to the door and still had to wait 15 minutes for a free person to cut her hair. All in all, it was a great experience. They were really great, quick, and distracted her with bubbles and stuff, until it was almost done and she was looking at herself in the mirror. I think she honestly missed the hair that used to cover her head, or something. She chose the yellow boat chair to sit in. There are different themed chairs in there (dragon, firetruck, etc). They even gave her some of the hair in a baggy with a coupon sized certificate for those scrapbooks we all have.
It was 14 bucks and worth every penny. I’d definitely take her there again.
Another place I’ve heard good things about it is good ol’ Magiccuts. They apparently do a good job and a certificate or something too. The location I heard these things about was in the Thyme Maternity/Sam’s club/Walmart/toys r us plaza in Pickering, on Brock Rd?
That’s all I have to say about that.
Good luck and happy hair days, always!!
