Where Santa’s at
4th December 2007
Wow, Santa’s been around for a while here. I didn’t realize he landed in town so early, like in November. Guess he really delegates duties at the shop these last few weeks.![]()
I love the Pickering Town Centre website because they know what people are looking for. This time of year, they want to know Santa’s hours, which you can easily find right smack on their home page. Rumour has it Pickering Santa has a REAL beard.
The Oshawa Centre? Eh. I’m still not sure what hours Santa is actually IN the mall, but photo package details are here and say he’s there until Dec. 24. The OC also
has a cute baby’s first Christmas package, which includes adorable penguin or reindeer mittens.
Last year, Lucy and Santa were great pals. While at the Pickering mall this weekend, she trotted right up to the railing at Santa’s Village, and excitedly pointed out “Ho-Ho.” So, fingers crossed she likes him again this year. Although, I wouldn’t be the least surprised if she freaks out, what with Santa being a) a man, b) sporting facial hair, and c) a stranger that is clearly NOT Mum-Mum.
Stay tuned for pics in the coming weeks, when Santa visits my hometown for breakfast…
(ps — I’m also negligent in not reminding you sooner about one of my favourite local events: Pet Pics with Santa to support the Durham Region Humane Society. There’s one more weekend of photos this coming Saturday and Sunday at Vandermeer Garden Centre in south Ajax. Cost is only $10.50, with proceeds directly to the shelter.)

I don’t think there’s any point in taking Eirinn to see Santa this year. As I see it, the whole thing can only go one of two ways. 1. She freaks out when I hand her over to some scary looking old man she’s never met. Or 2. She refuses to sit on his lap at all, pulls his fake beard, ruining it for all the other kids in the line up. From nearly 21 months of Tornado Eirinn experience, those are the only two options. If I for one second thought I might get her to sit nicely on his lap, look at the camera like a good girl and smile her sweet, innocent smile, I would take her. But that would never happen.
Between this and the lack of cooperation on Halloween, we’ll just pretend Eirinn skipped her second year of life. She’ll bounce straight from her first birthday all the way to her second.
Jen: There is a simple solution. Get one of those ‘aging/morphing’ programs, insert a picture of Eirinn when she first sat with Santa, age it by a year and voila! you have a ‘new’ picture of Eirinn at 21 months! lol
That way you don’t have to skip over 2 …
Good idea, Doodlesmom! I’ll totally lie my way through her childhood! I like the way you think. I’m sure I could do this myself if I just improved my Photoshop skillz…
OR!!! If I’m improving my Photoshop skillz anyway, I could just paste Santa’s head onto a picture of my husband or something. THAT would look believable.
We’ve been through it twice now with my 18 month son and he had to sit on his Daddy’s lap and the second time we tryed it by himself but he screamed. We’ll be going for a family photo with a Christmas background as an alternate.
Lucy will be great with Santa, just point the camera and say “It’s Grandpa with the Scruffes”. It just might work, you never know. For your info I just bought a “Redneck Christmas” CD. I’ll try not to pay it in Lucy’s presence.
I’m really looking forward to taking Nate to see Santa this year, but I’m sure it will be total disaster where he cries and screams and that is all just waiting in the line-up.
