It’s really not as torture-y as it looks

1st May 2007

cabbage_bath.jpgcabbage_dry.jpgI absolutely adored my Cabbage Patch Kids, Alexabel and Maxwell. We recently found them naked and gnawed on in a box in my parents’ attic, so they needed a good bath before I’d let Lucy near them.

(We’ve also acquired Eric’s brother’s Cabbage Patch doll, Norbert, complete with red and black lame work-out wear and Hudson’s Bay hooded jacket.)

Does anyone know if The Kids can go in the dryer? I washed them on Saturday night, and despite, um,  hanging since then -swing_smile.jpg- including a half day outside — they’re still damp. I don’t want them to go mouldy. A Google search took me into the depths of doll restoration and I got scared and can’t go back.

In other news, wouldn’t you be smiling if you were swinging in the sun with antennae?

Oh, and about the dolls. I’d probably put them in the dryer, but on a low heat. You could stop it half way through to see how they’re making out.

I used to wash mine when I was little. Put a blanket in the dryer with them though cause it is really loud. Their heads will be all soft and disgusting when you take them out but they go back to normal.

Put the kids in a pillow case so their faces dont get banged up too badly and then dry them on a delicate setting…

I would be worried about mold too since they are taking too long to dry !

What a cute pic of Lucy ! I love swing/happy baby with antennae pics

The Kids are in the dryer now, tha-thumping away. I tied them in a pillowcase, and added some towels to muffle the sound. Still sounds like I’m drying watermelons, though… Will let you know how they turn out. Thanks for the tips!

So how’d the doll baby washing go?

I’ve always had great success washing terry cloth animals and baby dolls. I do the washing on the cold water/delicate wash cycle and the drying on the lowest heat setting and I place the dolls on the rack that came with my dryer for drying sweaters. No thumping!
