Kids Craft Weekly

11th April 2007

Lucy has already created a fabulous array of artwork courtesy of Daycare Debbie. Each day Lucy comes home with another creation: hanging paper umbella, flowers and bees on ribbon, dinosaur hats, painted Easter egg.

Everything is currently hanging on our front door, or in Lucy’s bedroom. I’ve been wondering what to do with it all — then I found the coolest little kids’ artwork site.

Amber is a stay-at-home mom who found craft projects are great stimulating activities for her kids. So she puts together a sweet free e-newsletter with projects and ideas.

I found her via my Parent Hacks e-newsletter, which highlighted Amber’s wonderful array of reader ideas for what to do with all the art your child brings home. The clever solutions include hanging them with colourful string, creating a portfolio or scrapbook to show family and guests and using art as wrapping paper.

There is a resource page filled with unique and fun tools, such as printable project sheets, easy Christmas cards, and my absolute favourite: easy craft ideas for tiny little fingers.

I come from a very crafty family and everyone is waiting for Lucy to get older so we can really create with her. This will definitely be a fabulous resource as she grows. And, selfishly, what I really love is that she’s a mom that just wants to help others and share her ideas — just like me. What a better way to support her than share her brilliance with y’all.

Please save it all in a scrap book or something like that … even the littlest things that you might not think “worthy” of being saved. Kids pick up on that. ;(

I’d like to see it and you can always send “extras” for me to put in my Lucy book. :)

Thanks, Carly! I’ve just started working on crafty-type things with Bean, but I hadn’t made the time to search online yet for ideas :) You just made it that much easier for me!!

P.S. We’re doing finger-painting with the kids at playgroup at my house this afternoon – wish us luck! I just hope the couch and the puppy don’t end up being Crayola-coloured!
