Busy
16th March 2007
Lucy is home with me today, and I forget after only four days of her in daycare just how busy she is.
In order to turn on the computer, hit the ‘get mail’ button in Thunderbird, check site stats and write this many words, I’ve distracted Lucy with a birthday card, an old CD tower case full of toys, four books and a cloth “Things that Go” puzzle. At this very moment she’s trying to open a filing cabinet drawer with an Archie comic book in her hand.
It is fascinating to watch where her growing brain will take her next. The child has the attention span of…a toddler, I guess. Nothing except sitting and reading books together keeps her occupied more than 30 seconds.
(She has now moved on to folding our Mastercard bill over and over in her hands, shaking it above her head every few seconds…oh, now she’s stuffing it in a plastic container. Do you think the credit card company would take “The baby ate our bill” as an excuse for non-payment?)
I remember being concerned about Lucy taking so long to crawl, and all of you telling me a) not to worry, that she’d go when she was ready, and b) to just SHUT UP AND BE THANKFUL.
So now, as Lucy crawls into her room and simultaneously pulls every book and stuffed animal off her shelves, throws BooBoo in the air and makes a run for the lamp cord, I give you permission to pat yourselves on the back, look into the computer screen, shake your head and say, “I told you so.”

Just be thankful that she’s still crawling and not walking (sorry, RUNNING!) around the house… how can little toddler legs go THAT FAST?!
Yeah, I was going to say if you think keeping up with a crawler is tough…just wait until she’s up on two legs…running!
The fun has just begun~
I can vouch for both of those…. Mya has been walking since the 31st of Jan. And I cannot keep up with her nearly as well as I could when she was crawling…..
I hope you got that shelve unit screwed into the wall, she could pull herself up with it and have it topple over on her……….
