Lucy can poop all she wants at the new Ajax Tim Hortons

26th February 2007

Remember back in September, when we changed Lucy’s diaper on the table of a Tim Hortons and the Internet took a hit out on us?

I was thrilled to find a local Tim Hortons that is, finally and truly, family friendly.

A new one recently opened at Salem Road and the 401 in Ajax. Inside there’s a unisex FAMILY WASHROOM! A separate one with tons of room for a stroller and several adults/kids, a change table, garbage can for diapers, sink toilet, everything. There are even highchairs.

The highchair issue always bugged me the most about Tim Hortons: why invite babies into your store with the lure of highchairs, but don’t provide a place to change them? And stop running ads (most recently a Canada-wide hiring campaign) featuring moms with babies. That, to me, is false advertising.

Now no other Tims store in Canada has the argument that there’s a company policy against change tables because of  liability (if a baby were to fall) — that’s null and void with these family washrooms.

Bravo, Tim Hortons. Now it’s time to continue getting with the times and retrofit all your stores.

(Does anyone know of other Tim Hortons in Durham that have these washrooms or change tables? I’d love to know…)
