10 reasons why one half of me is looking forward to going back to work
8th January 2007
1. Wearing pants that do not have drawstrings, are not made of fleece, cannot be washed and dried on any temperature and do not sag in the ass/crotch
2. Doing my hair (read: doing more than just finger-combing it or mashing it back with a hairband). Maybe even putting product in *gasp*
3. Talking with adults about non-child related, adult things such as workplace gossip and hot damn, when did Leo get so hot?
4. Eating hot foods while they’re hot, all at once, not in little bites while feeding the baby
5. Wearing jewellery. I haven’t worn a necklace or earrings since the summer when Lucy started yanking on anything dangly or shiny, and I have a really nice collection that’s aching to be dusted off
6. Mascara. Eyeliner. Blush. Because the baby doesn’t care if my lips look pouty or my eyelashes are full and separated, but it sure does make me feel good
7. Breaking my feet back into heels. Oh, how I terribly miss my shoes
8. Stimulating the side of my brain NOT involved in dancing with a diaper on my head (embarrasingly, I do this multiple times a day), cutting up food in teeny pieces and singing More Milk
9. Being around other people, people who can talk back (I believe this is called a conversation?) in understandable words and sentences
10. Attempting to have it all: using my hard-earned skills to contribute to the world while still raising my delightful little girl

I hear on that back to work. I work in retail and have been back to work over 2 years now and whenever i get a grumpy customer I always think someone needs a nap. I love putting on makeup and playing dress up to go to work. I never stop talking at work. Poor customers probably think I am crazy
And… you can go to the bathroom whenever you like, for as long as you like! And read a newspaper or magazine in one sitting.
And Leo is pure crumpet (mmmm).
Wait’ll you feel how long the first lunch break feels. An hour, all to yourself? BLISS. Then, you start to think of all the things you could be doing with the time. You have no idea how much I can accomplish on a lunch break these days!
