Mmmmmmuffin top
6th July 2006
Hey, have you heard of the muffin top?
It’s when your hips and belly kinda poof out of the top of your pants, you know, like a muffin hangs over the edge of the paper cup. Here are some examples.
I have to hang my head in guilty shame, because I have this. MY NAME IS CARLY AND I HAVE A MUFFIN TOP.
It is the most frustrating remnant of pregnancy. My postpartum body, weight wise, has pretty much returned to normal, give or take some pounds. But the shape of it has totally changed.
Lucy, when she was inside me, ate my bum. I don’t know what she did with it, but what she left me with are two very flat ass cheeks (I see this on many mummies. It’s the Mom Bum.). My hips are wider since giving birth — I doubt any pre-baby pants will ever fit me again. And while my belly has pretty much sunken back, I’m left with a ring of jiggly pregnant-belly-probably-ate-too-many-apple-fritters flesh.
Flat butt+left-over baby belly = muffin top.
I really want to fix this, but am struggling with finding time to exercise during the day. When Lucy sleeps in the morning, I surf and post here. When she sleeps through lunch, I eat lunch or we’re out. When she sleeps in the afternoon, I do laundry or clean or get dinner ready. We’re always on the go, but not in a raise-your-heart-rate-for-an-extended-time-go.
Something has got to change, though, ’cause I miss my pre-flat-jiggle-muffin self. I’m not lacking in self confidence over it or anything, but I feel like a stranger in my own body.
Next week I’m going to start making time. Soon the muffin top will be replaced a bread stick! Or at least a french loaf…

hey I hear ya, I can hang my head in shame as well….. Trying to get the exercise in in HARD….. Especially since i have a catnapper on my hands….
One of the best pieces of exercise equipment I’ve ever used is the AbLounger. No kidding…and I’ve used more than my share. Best 99 bucks I ever spent. My body shape began to change with the onset of menopause. I developed a tummy right under my boobs! Using the AbLounger trimmed that tummy right down and made my entire tummy region much firmer. Of course if you stop using it…the flab returns
*off to use the AbLounger*
Your little girl is very cute as you know. My Daniel was born Feb, 20, 2006. He is a big guy. he is 19lbs and 57cm long. He takes after his dad as well. I love reading your stories as we are going through the exact same stages. I am trying to loose weight and to look at me you would think I have lost most of it. I gained almost 40 lbs during pregnancy and have lost about 20lbs. My problem is the lower belly. I try all kinds of situps/crunches and nothing pulls it back.
