We chickened out
10th May 2006
We decided to wait on putting Lucy to bed earlier.
Several public health nurses I spoke with thought it was too early for Lucy to sleep for 10-12 hours. And she shouldn’t go down to five feeds a day at only 10-ish weeks.
And I refuse to go back to night feedings, at least as long as I can control it (what she decides, as time goes on, is a whole other battle). Putting her down three hours earlier could mean she’s up three hours earlier — at 4 a.m.
Um, no. Not again.
A part of me knows that we have it really, REALLY good with Lucy. The vast majority of moms I meet and chat with are still up at least once a night, even with babies 4.5 months old.
So we’ll wait a few more weeks and try an earlier night around four months or so. For now, we’ve been keeping the last few hours of her night much calmer and quieter (wondering if her crying is due to being over stimulated by the end of the day?) — no play in the bouncy chair, no loud music or TV. She even dozed in the swing for half an hour.
It seemed to work last night. We had far less crying, and even did well after the bath. I got some time to read a book (shocker!!), Eric did some model airplane work, and Spencer got cuddles.
Good times for all.

My baby, Eirinn is 9 weeks old and she is still up 2 – 3 times a night to eat. The longest she will go is 3 hours without eating. It is very exhausting and I am going to start supplementing her diet with formula. You are very lucky to have a baby that can go so long without a feeding!
You definitely have it very good. My cousin’s daughter turns 2 this weekend and is still up 2-3 times a night
